Animated Backgrounds with jQuery
I apologise in advance, a this is a very old technique, but it’s something I have wanted to try out since last year. A while ago, I stumbled upon Sunrise Design, and absolutely loved the subtle background animation!

Whilst designing the new skin for this site, I made the decision to go for a single page layout with a few other templates for the archive, portfolio and articles pages. I didn’t really consider the impications of this for the speed at which my page loads until I read Chris Coyier’s article about serving images from a subdomain. That got me thinking, especially with all the imagery I was going to need to use. So I had a think about what things I could do to either reduce the size of the page, reduce the number of requests and generally speed things up. Here are three steps I took to do this, which have actually shaved an average of 4 seconds off the page load time.
It’s been over a month since I last posted, and the main reason behind this was the fact that I was working on a new design for this website. I really liked the idea of my previous Brighton themed skin, but as with most of my designs, I got bored of it after only a few months. I think it looked quite old as well, because of the colours used and the 780px width.
I finally got my invite to TypeKit today! I had to wait for an invite from a friend in the end. I must say, I see it as a great resource for the future.
I am planning to add some more posts in the near future, I have been sidetracked recently by a number of things, which has meant that updating this articles section has been lower down my list of priorities. I have been busy at work, on holiday, moving flat and I also managed to dislocate my patella playing football! Anyway, I have just got back from Santorini and Ios in Greece, and will be back at work on Monday, so I should be able to start adding some more articles again soon!
